The Toronto Blue Jays will turn to another bullpen game against the Miami Marlins as injuries and rotation concerns continue to test the club’s pitching depth. According to Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith, manager John Schneider confirmed that right-hander Braydon Fisher will open Tuesday’s game.
Toronto’s starting rotation has been depleted in recent weeks, forcing the Blue Jays to rely more heavily on bullpen games and flexible pitching roles. Fisher has become an important part of that strategy, thanks to his ability to handle multiple situations out of the bullpen.
The 25-year-old has appeared in 21 games this season and owns a 3.18 ERA with 20 strikeouts across 22.2 innings. Opponents are batting just .198 against him, while he continues to provide Toronto with valuable innings in both middle relief and opener assignments.

This will mark the third time Fisher has opened a game for the Blue Jays this season. Schneider has frequently used him to begin bullpen games for his ability to attack hitters early and limit damage against the top of opposing lineups.
Fisher already showed he can succeed in the role during Toronto’s recent series against the New York Yankees. In that outing, he threw 1.1 scoreless innings and struck out four batters before the bullpen combined to shut out New York in a 2-0 victory.
Once Fisher exits, the Blue Jays are expected to hand the ball to Spencer Miles for the bulk of the game. The rookie right-hander has quietly become one of Toronto’s most dependable multi-inning relievers during the early part of the season.
Miles has posted a 3.00 ERA with 18 strikeouts across 21 innings in 12 appearances. The 25-year-old Rule 5 pick has handled several long-relief assignments and continues to earn more trust from Toronto’s coaching staff. He also impressed during the Yankees series by delivering 4.1 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out six batters.
Nathan Lukes led Toronto offensively with three hits, while Ernie Clement added a solo home run. Rookie starter Trey Yesavage allowed five runs across 6.2 innings as Miami collected 12 hits in the victory.
Before that loss, Toronto had won four of its previous six games. The Blue Jays also recently leaned heavily on their bullpen during a 2-0 win over the Yankees, a game in which Fisher struck out four batters in 1.1 scoreless innings before Miles followed with 4.1 shutout innings.
Toronto entered Tuesday with a 25-29 record, sitting third in the American League East despite ongoing rotation challenges.
