The Toronto Blue Jays' momentum from a recent sweep of the San Diego Padres was halted as they suffered their second consecutive loss, this time to the Tampa Bay Rays. The 3-1 defeat on Saturday dropped the Blue Jays back to a .500 record at 25-25. Despite a strong performance from starting pitcher Chris Bassitt, who allowed only two runs over six innings, the Blue Jays' bats remained largely silent, managing just one run in the contest.
Through the ups and downs for the Blue Jays this season, catcher Tyler Heineman has emerged as one of Toronto's top performers. Known for his solid defense, Heineman has also contributed offensively, boasting a .396 batting average with an OPS of .953 over 19 games this season.
However, the Blue Jays announced on Sunday that Heineman has been placed on the 7-day injured list due to a concussion. The injury occurred after Heineman took multiple foul balls off the mask during a recent game against the Padres. Following the incident, he reported symptoms consistent with a concussion, leading to his placement on the IL.
In response to Heineman's absence, the Blue Jays have selected catcher Ali Sánchez to the major league roster.

Sánchez, who has been performing well in the minors, is expected to provide support behind the plate alongside Alejandro Kirk. Kirk, currently batting .284 with three home runs and 18 RBIs, will be relied on even more in Heineman's absence.
The Blue Jays will look to avoid a series sweep as they face the Rays in the series finale on Sunday.
