Blue Jays Make Unfortunate George Springer Announcement During Orioles Game

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer has been red hot to start the 2025 MLB season. After a very poor Spring Training where he recorded just four hits in 37 at-bats, the four-time All-Star entered Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles with a 1.106 OPS and 10 runs driven in through 15 games.

At 35 years old, Springer has helped carry Toronto's offense as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has started slow in the power department. Hitting cleanup for manager John Schneider on Sunday, Springer was removed from the game after three at-bats.

The right-handed slugger was replaced by Will Wagner in the DH spot.

Shortly after Springer exited the game, the Blue Jays made an official injury announcement on why he was removed.

"UPDATE: DH George Springer was removed from today’s game with left wrist discomfort," the team announced.

Given Springer entered this game as Toronto's leader in several statistical categories, including runs driven in, his removal from the game was unfortunate. Making matters worse, Sunday's game is an American League East battle between Toronto and Baltimore.

Entering play, the Blue Jays (8-7) led the Orioles (6-8) by just 1.5 games in the AL East standings. While the season is still very young, these head-to-head battles often go a long way towards determining how the standings end up. This makes Springer's early exit especially troubling for a Toronto team that has been so reliant on his offensive production to begin the season.

Sunday's game is the series finale between the Blue Jays and Orioles.
