Blue Jays' Move Revealed After Rafael Devers Trade

The Toronto Blue Jays did not have a very good weekend. They just got swept by the Philadelphia Phillies in a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, which ended in an 11-4 loss on Sunday.

Moreover, the Blue Jays appear to be among the teams that took a swing and missed out on the Rafael Devers sweepstakes.

“The Braves, Padres, and Blue Jays inquired about Rafael Devers' availability, but weren't as motivated as the Giants,” according to Sean McAdam of MassLive (h/t Foul Territory).

Instead, Devers is taking his talents to National League West, with the San Francisco Giants sending left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison, right-handed hurler Jordan Hicks, outfielder James Tibbs and pitching prospect Jose Bello to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for the three-time All-Star.

The 28-year-old Devers and the Red Sox had not seen each other eye to eye because of an issue concerning his position on the field. But that is no longer a controversy Boston will have to deal with, with both sides now going their separate ways.

With the Giants, Devers is expected to provide a spark for San Francisco's offense that's been in need of a productive bat that can help the team keep up in the competitive NL West.

As for the Blue Jays, while their pursuit of Devers did not come to fruition, they can take heart from the fact that they will no longer have to deal with him regularly.

Devers has been a menace for Toronto. In 105 games with the Red Sox against the Blue Jays, he had slashed .307/.368/.569 with 24 home runs and 74 RBIs.
