Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Nathan Lukes exited Friday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians due to left hamstring discomfort, the team announced. Lukes suffered the injury in the first inning while running to second base on a double. Injuries have been a concern for the Blue Jays in 2026, so this is certainly the last thing the team wanted to see.

Lukes, 31, is hitting .250/286/.327 across 20 games played during the 2026 MLB season. He is an important player for Toronto. The Blue Jays are hopeful that he will not have to miss too much time.

Players such as Jose Berrios, Trey Yesavage and George Springer are already injured. Toronto has underperformed in 2026 — they are currently just 10-14 overall and in fourth place in the American League East standings — and injuries have played a significant role in the team’s struggles.

This Blue Jays squad features the potential to bounce back and climb the standings. After all, this is a similar roster to the one that reached the World Series in 2025. Sure, some underperformance on the field has been a factor, but the Blue Jays will likely see improvement once injured players begin to return.

For now, the focus is on Lukes’ hamstring concern. The team will continue to monitor and provide updates on Nathan Lukes’ injury status as they are made available.

As for the Blue Jays, Friday night’s contest represents the first matchup of a three-game series against the Guardians at home. Cleveland holds a 7-3 lead in the fourth inning as of this story’s publication.
