Charles McAdoo sent a message after hitting the first home run of his Major League career during Friday night's 6-5 comeback win over the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. The 24-year-old infielder delivered one of the biggest moments in Friday night's game against the Baltimore Orioles just two days after the Toronto Blue Jays promoted him from Triple-A Buffalo.

McAdoo’s first career MLB home run helped spark Toronto’s comeback from a five-run deficit in a 6-5 victory at Camden Yards. Making his Major League debut earlier in the evening, the rookie admitted afterward that excitement and nerves followed him throughout the day, saying his heart raced as he prepared for his first game in the majors.

Fortunately for the rookie, veteran outfielder Nathan Lukes helped him stay relaxed before first pitch. McAdoo said Lukes reminded him that while the moment would feel overwhelming, he should remember to enjoy it.

With the Blue Jays trailing 5-1, McAdoo stepped to the plate for his third Major League at-bat and attacked a 1-1 fastball. The ball traveled a projected 369 feet and cleared the wall in right-center field for a two-run homer, cutting into Baltimore's lead and capping a four-run inning for Toronto.

According to reporter Arden Zwelling, McAdoo said he knew the ball had a chance as soon as it left his bat. When he saw it clear the wall, the reality of his first Major League hit also becoming his first Major League home run quickly set in. The rookie described the experience as “difficult to put into words.”

The home run became a turning point in the game as one inning later, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. delivered a go-ahead two-run double as Toronto completed the comeback and improved to 29-29 on the season. McAdoo finished his debut 1-for-4 at the plate.

While the home run grabbed the headlines, he also impressed defensively. Playing second base for only the 13th time in his professional career, he helped turn a smooth double play in the first inning and looked comfortable throughout the game.

The Blue Jays acquired McAdoo from the Pittsburgh Pirates at the 2024 trade deadline in the deal that sent Isiah Kiner-Falefa to Pittsburgh. The Pirates originally selected him in the 13th round of the 2023 MLB Draft.

McAdoo earned his promotion after a strong season at Triple-A Buffalo. In 51 games before his call-up, he batted .292 with 10 home runs, 36 RBIs, and an .864 OPS.

The victory improved Toronto to 29-29 on the season and moved the club back to the .500 mark and into possession of the third American League Wild Card spot entering Saturday's action. The Blue Jays have now won three of their last five games as they continue their push in the American League Wild Card race.
