The Toronto Blue Jays have one of the most talented rosters in MLB this year as they look to win the American League pennant for a second straight season. Toronto has the right player leading the charge in first basemanVladimir Guerrero Jr.
He is a five‑time All‑Star, Gold Glove winner and two‑time Silver Slugger across seven MLB seasons. Guerrero’s spring training this year feels different.
Last spring, his future was far more uncertain as he entered the final year of team control before hitting unrestricted free agency. Toronto never let him get that far, signing him to a massive 14‑year, $500 million deal last April.
Guerrero rewarded the investment by helping lead the Blue Jays to their first World Series appearance in more than three decades. The 27‑year‑old shined in October, posting a .397 batting average, .494 on‑base percentage and 1.289 OPS with eight home runs and 15 RBIs across 18 postseason games.
But he was not the only reason Toronto made such a deep run. The club had the right manager pulling the strings in John Schneider. Schneider has been at the helm since July 2022 and has thrived in the role, forming a strong, tight‑knit bond with his players. That connection extends to Guerrero.
During Sunday’s spring training game, Schneider was being interviewed on the broadcast when cameras caught Guerrero playfully tossing sunflower seeds at him. Schneider laughed it off, and the Blue Jays later posted the clip on X with the caption, “Just Vladdy being Vladdy .”

With the grind of a 162‑game season ahead, moments like that matter. The Blue Jays know the fun will fade once the games start counting, and both Schneider and Guerrero will be locked in on chasing not only another American League East title but also another AL pennant.
Last year, across 156 regular‑season games, Guerrero hit .292 with a .381 on‑base percentage and .848 OPS with 23 home runs and 84 RBIs. With his prime years just beginning, the Blue Jays believe Guerrero is capable of carrying them even further in 2026.
