Blue Jays Receive Brutal Bo Bichette Update at Winter Meetings

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette was a driving force behind the club’s league-best record last season, but the two-time All-Star is now hitting the open market as one of the winter’s premier free agents.

Even though his glove work at shortstop has never been his calling card, Bichette’s elite bat has teams thinking creatively. Clubs that already have a shortstop locked down are exploring the idea of shifting him to second base or third base, dramatically widening his pool of suitors.

During a recent MLB Network segment at the winter meetings, analyst Cliff Floyd forecasted that Bichette will ultimately land with the Boston Red Sox—and play second base.

“Bichette is going to end up in Boston playing second base,” Floyd said.

The 26-year-old remains one of baseball’s most dangerous hitters.

After a subpar 2024 campaign, he rebounded in a major way last season, posting a .311/.357/.483 line with 18 home runs. Before a late-season knee injury slowed him down, Bichette actually led all of baseball in hits.

According to The Athletic’s Will Sammon and Ken Rosenthal, some members of Boston’s front office already see Bichette as a viable fallback option to free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman.

If Toronto invests heavily in outfielder Kyle Tucker this offseason, the Blue Jays could price themselves out of Bichette’s market, potentially clearing a path for the Red Sox to swoop in.

Bichette has also thrived at Fenway Park throughout his career. In 35 games at Fenway Park, he owns a .329/.382/.524 slash line with six home runs. Playing 81 games a year in that hitter-friendly environment could push his already impressive numbers even higher.

As the winter meetings unfold, one of the biggest storylines in baseball will be where Bo Bichette calls home in 2026 and beyond. Boston, with its need for right-handed pop and positional flexibility, is shaping up as a serious contender to steal him from the division-rival Blue Jays.
