The Toronto Blue Jays are in the midst of a crucial three-game set against the New York Yankees, looking to separate themselves and expand their AL East division lead. Toronto has been firing on all cylinders in 2025, with bounce-back seasons from designated hitter George Springer and shortstop Bo Bichette.

It was imperative for Bichette to return to his consistent form, as the 27-year-old is set to hit free agency in the offseason and is seeking a lucrative long-term deal.

Bichette has had an incredible season, currently leading the league in hits (180) and doubles (43), paired with a .311 batting average, .356 on-base percentage and .838 OPS.

Aside from his 2024 down year, Bichette has been a model of consistency over his seven seasons in Toronto.

During Saturday’s game against the Yankees, Bichette was thrown out at home plate after a single from Nathan Lukes in the top of the sixth inning. He had to be helped off the field by a trainer and was in obvious pain.

Had Bichette’s injury been serious, it would have be a huge blow to Toronto’s postseason hopes, as he’s been central to the team’s success at the top of the order. If he were to miss extended time, Isiah Kiner-Falefa would likely fill in at shortstop. The Blue Jays picked him up off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates as a versatile depth piece to plug in the infield and outfield.

However, the Blue Jays received great news when their contest against the Yankees resumed from a rain delay. Despite looking to be in significant pain following his collision at home, Bichette was able to stay in the game and take the field after the delay.

Bichette’s seven-year career with the Blue Jays has been impressive: two All-Star selections, an OPS above .800 in six of seven seasons, and back-to-back AL hit titles in 2021 and 2022.

With under a month remaining in the regular season, his health will be big for Toronto.
