The Toronto Blue Jays have used their savings from the first 10 rounds to draft a high school outfielder.
In the 12th round of the 2025 MLB draft, the Blue Jays selected Blaine Bullard, who ranked as MLB Pipeline’s 120th-best draft-eligible prospect. Attending Klein Cain High School in Texas, the 6’2”, 180 lbs outfielder is a switch hitter who is committed to Texas A&M.
Bullard is an older high school player, as he’s set to turn 19 years old next month. Scouts are torn regarding hitting; some like his ability to make contact from both sides of the plate, while others think hitting is a big concern. Bullard’s approach is gap-to-gap, but has some projectability remaining in his frame, as well as quick bat speed, so power could come in the future.
Defensively, Bullard is expected to stay in the outfield but could easily fill in the corners if need be, thanks to solid arm strength. Bullard is also a quick runner, which MLB Pipeline grades as a 60. Unlike Jake Cook (who has an 80 grade in run), Bullard isn’t afraid to steal a base.
The slot of picks from the 11th round to the 20th round is $150,000. It also won’t dig into the Blue Jays’ bonus pool unless they go over the limit, which will almost certainly happen with Bullard if they wish to sign him. Then again, the Jays picked quite a few players whom they can underslot earlier in the draft.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Jays can sign him.
