For the second time, the Toronto Blue Jays have selected Micah Bucknam.

After doing so with the 482nd overall pick in the 2021 draft, the Blue Jays selected the right-handed pitcher with the 112th overall pick on Monday morning.

Bucknam, who was born in New Zealand but raised in Canada, is ranked as MLB Pipeline’s 131st overall prospect. His fastball sits 92-96 mph, but lacks a ton of movement. His best pitch is his 65 graded slider, which can reach as high a 91 mph (sits mid-80s). He also throws a 60-grade curveball and a below-average changeup. Bucknam also has below-average control.

The 21-year-old spent two seasons at Louisiana State University, pitching just 16 innings in 2023 and 2024. Bucknam transferred to Dallas Baptist University before the 2025 season and found a home there, posting a 4.62 ERA and 3.67 FIP in 62.1 innings pitched. He also struck out 29.4% of batters while walking 9.2% of batters. He also won a College World Series ring with Louisiana State University in 2023, but transferred away before they won in 2025.

As noted before, this isn’t the first time that the Blue Jays have selected Bucknam. They also did in the latter rounds of 2021 when he pitched for Mennonite Educational Institute in Abbotsford, British Columbia.

Similarly, the player the Blue Jays picked two picks ahead of him, Damiano Palmegiani, was also raised in Canada and was drafted by the Blue Jays twice. In 2018, they selected him out of Vauxhall High School 1,046th overall, but he elected not to sign. In 2021, they selected him 422nd overall, with the first baseman joining the Blue Jays.

Bucknam will turn 22 years old on August 26. With his age, it wouldn’t be surprising if he pitches with the Jays this season, probably with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays. This pick has a slot value of $680,800, and he could be a bit of an underslot.
