Toronto Blue Jays left-handed reliever Joe Mantiply will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, manager John Schneider confirmed Thursday during a media availability ahead of the series opener against the Baltimore Orioles.

Mantiply, 35, was initially placed on the 15-day injured list on May 19 with what was first listed as left knee inflammation. However, after receiving a second opinion, it was reportedly determined that he will require a scope procedure to address underlying damage in the knee. The surgery date has not been set, and no recovery timeline has been established, though Schneider stated it is not expected to be a season-ending procedure.

The veteran southpaw originally signed a minor-league contract with Toronto on March 3, 2026, after opening the year with Triple-A Buffalo. His contract was selected by the Blue Jays on April 5, bringing him onto the MLB roster just weeks into the season.

Across 17 Major League appearances this season, Mantiply recorded a 2.04 ERA over 17 2/3 innings pitched, along with a 1.13 WHIP and a 1-0 record. He struck out 16 batters while allowing opposing hitters to bat .254 against him. Mantiply also issued four walks during that span.

After allowing three earned runs in his second outing against the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 6, Mantiply settled into a strong run of form. Over his next 5 2/3 innings, he surrendered just one earned run. During May, he logged six scoreless appearances, limiting opponents to a .200 batting average in that stretch.
