The Toronto Blue Jays need first basemanVladimir Guerrero Jr. to step up. They're currently 33-35 and eight games out of first place in the American League East. After a World Series appearance last season, Toronto is struggling to find the same success.
A big piece of that has been Guerrero. In 66 games, he has accumulated 238 at-bats, 38 runs scored, 67 hits, three home runs, 25 RBIs and 32 walks. The five-time All-Star is also slashing .282/.371/.366 with a .737 OPS.
While his numbers are solid, the Blue Jays were expecting more when they handed him a 14-year, $500 million extension that runs through the 2039 season.
As the two-time Silver Slugger works toward helping Toronto string together some wins, he is making moves off the field. In a joint Instagram post on Wednesday, Guerrero announced that he has partnered with Betway, an online gambling company, to become a responsible gambling ambassador.
"The best players know it’s not always about when to swing," the post's caption read. "It’s about knowing when to take a walk. We’re proud to team up with @vladdyjr27 as our Responsible Gambling Ambassador to promote Responsible Gambling. Feel the action. Bet the responsible way."
Betway joins a rapidly growing list of companies that the 27-year-old has teamed up with. Others include FlexWork Sports Management, Uber Eats, Pizza Pizza, Uncrustables and A&W.
With this latest partnership announced, he and the Blue Jays are focused on the Philadelphia Phillies. It's a rubber match on Wednesday to decide the winner of this three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. ET at Rogers Centre.
