Today, the Blue Jays and the Mets faced off at the New York team's spring training home. It was, therefore, the first time Bo Bichette had faced his former teammates.
He was seen chatting with George Springer, for instance, as the latter made his way to third base.
Obviously, the infielder decided to leave Toronto, but everything suggests that it wasn't necessarily because of day-to-day happenings in the locker room. It seems more like his relationship with management was on the rocks.
On that note, General Manager John Schneider told Jeremy Filosa and Gavino De Falco (who showed up in Florida for camp) that he had taken the time to chat with his former player.
I recommend listening to the full interview with the Toronto manager. It's excellent.
Schneider and Bichette, who grew up together in the Blue Jays' farm system, discussed the player's situation with the Mets as well as his transition to third base. On that note, the former Blue Jay made a great defensive play today against his former team. We know that third base isn’t exactly his natural position.
Bichette, for his part, has been keeping up with how things are going at Blue Jays camp, where he has many friends.
I can't wait to see how Bichette handles the pressure in New York. The Mets aren't an elite team… and if the Mets have a rough season, it will largely be on his shoulders.
Sandy Alcantara will start for the Dominican Republic on Tuesday if they win. Nolan McLean will start for the USA in the championship game if they win. — Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) March 15, 2026
