The Toronto Blue Jays are expected to receive a big boost since Bo Bichette is projected back to the field after a few weeks out due to injury. It is being reported that the star shortstop, who is currently out with a right calf strain, is on the verge of full recovery, and he might be back in the lineup in a matter of days.
Bichette is coming back at an important moment. The Blue Jays have advanced to the World Series. Before the injury, Bichette had a batting average of .311 with 18 homers and 94 RBI, and provided stability at the plate and in the clubhouse.
In his absence, the team has been filling the shortstop position with a revolving door of infielders, with the likes of Isiah Kiner-Falefa taking the position. Although the performance of IKF was commendable, the production of Toronto offensively declined significantly. “This is a dream for me to be playing in these games… I’ll be ready,” Bichette said after Toronto advanced to the World Series.
Bichette is supposed to be batting leadoff or in the No. 2 spot. The fact that he will produce base hits and put the team in the right frame of mind early in the games will prove to be important as the team will be fighting to qualify for the postseason.
He will also remove some of the pressure on sluggers Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and George Springer to spend more time driving in runs than creating scoring opportunities by himself.
Bichette was injured against the New York Yankees at the beginning of September. The first scans showed a light strain, but the Blue Jays decided to take it slowly, ensuring a full recovery. He started light workouts two weeks ago and has gradually evolved into fielding and hitting. He also had a minor-league rehab appearance, where he was 3-for-7 with a double and a stolen base in two games. This is a positive step in showing that he is ready to play.
Toronto is four wins away from immortality and a World Series victory. Provided that Bichette can pick up where he has left off, the Blue Jays have a great chance to win it all.
