Bonkers Red Sox stat highlights impressive turnaround

It has been quite an adventure for the Boston Red Sox in the 2026 MLB season. At some point in June, Boston was given just below a 10 percent chance to make the MLB postseason, but it is a completely different story now.

The Red Sox have become one of the hottest teams in baseball. They closed out the first half of the campaign with nine straight wins and started the second half with six straight victories.

And after their 4-0 win over the Chicago White Sox at Fenway Park in Boston on Wednesday night, the Red Sox have stretched their winning streak to seven games, a stretch that includes a sweep of the reigning World Series champions Los Angeles Dodgers.

As noted by Jayson Stark of The Athletic, it took Boston 73 games to win 30 games this season, but they have already won that many games over their last 35 outings.

Following their victory over the White Sox, the Red Sox’s playoff odds over at FanGraphs are at 93.4 percent. They are still trailing the Tampa Bay Rays for the top spot in the American League East Division standings by 5.5 games, but they are also six games inside the wild-card picture in the AL.

Sonny Gray played a big role in Boston’s win against the White Sox, as he tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and issuing two walks with eight strikeouts.

The 62-51 Red Sox will look to complete a three-game sweep of the visiting Chicago squad Thursday, with Boston sending Ranger Suarez to the mound.
