Boston Red Sox infielder Luis Urias is having quite the week!
After hitting a grand slam on Thursday against the Washington Nationals, Urias connected for another grand slam on Saturday afternoon, this time off New York Yankees' ace Gerrit Cole.
With that blast, Urias made multiple instances of team - and baseball - history.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Luis Urías is the first Red Sox player to hit a grand slam in back-to-back games played since Jimmie Foxx in 1940.
He's the first Red Sox No. 9 hitter to hit a grand slam against the Yankees since Luis Rivera hit one vs Jeff Robinson on Aug. 31, 1990.
In addition to that Red Sox history, Urias did something that hasn't been done in more than 30 years of baseball history as well.
Urías is the first player with a grand slam in consecutive plate appearances since Josh Willingham did it in consecutive innings on July 27, 2009.
Acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers at the trade deadline this year, Urias is hitting just .188 this season with three home runs and 14 RBI.
He's in his sixth year in the big leagues with the Padres, Brewers and Red Sox and is a lifetime .236 hitter. The Red Sox are giving him an opportunity to get a lot of time in the middle infield alongside Trevor Story and Pablo Reyes, who also factors into the mix.
At the time of this posting, the Red Sox lead the Yankees 6-0. The two teams will wrap up the series on Sunday.
