Boston Red Sox Make Jersey Decision for 2026 Season

The days of the Boston Red Sox traditionally only wearing white, gray, and red are over, as the team has confirmed they will bring back their Fenway Green and Yellow City Connect uniforms in 2026.

Troup Parkinson, the Red Sox’s chief marketing and partnerships officer, told the Boston Globe that the Fenway Green uniforms are the highest-selling City Connect jerseys in MLB history. The Red Sox introduced the Fenway Greens in May as their new Friday night uniform.

“It was amazing hearing the fan reaction because that’s when you know you’ve hit on something that people like as much as you do,” Parkinson said. “We all internally loved it, but it’s hard to be our own focus group.”

The Red Sox went 6-5 in the Fenway Greens, with all six victories ending in walk-off fashion. Boston notably wore the uniforms in a September 26 win over the Detroit Tigers, which clinched the Red Sox’s first playoff berth since 2021.

“It was awesome that we kind of got lucky and were winning all those games in walk-off fashion,” Parkinson acknowledged. “They seemed to be the perfect look for Friday night at Fenway, which generally is such an energy-laced game regardless.”

The Red Sox’s Yellow City Connect Jerseys Will Also Return in 2026

The Red Sox debuted their yellow City Connect jerseys in 2021, a uniform set paying homage to the Boston Marathon. However, upon adding the Fenway Greens last year, the Red Sox made the yellow jerseys a staple of their uniform rotation rather than retiring them, as other teams have done when switching City Connect uniforms.

Parkinson said the team has no plans to stop wearing the yellow jerseys, nor does it intend to remove any of their traditional uniforms. The Red Sox typically wear white jerseys at home and grey on the road, with a red alternate jersey they use regardless of location.

“They’re not schtick,” Parkinson said of the yellow jerseys. “It’s not, ‘Hey, we have to do a City Connect, let’s just do one that’s about ... the history of Boston.’ This means more. So I think that’s why you don’t see us jumping to replace with something else.”

As of 2025, 28 of the league’s 30 teams have City Connect uniforms. The Yankees do not wear alternate jerseys, and the Athletics, who expect to move to Las Vegas in 2028, are not associated with any city while playing in Sacramento; the A’s did not have a City Connect jersey during their final seasons in Oakland.

The Red Sox went 89-73 this past season, posting only their third winning record since their 2018 World Series title. However, their season ended with an AL Wild Card Round loss to the rival New York Yankees.
