The Boston Red Sox are retooling their pitching when it comes to prospects. A particular conference in college baseball is feeling their wrath when it comes to talent that could be turning pro sooner than later.

Red Sox take three SEC pitchers early

Boston had a clear plan in place for their 2025 MLB Draft class. They attacked the pitching side of things, and they valued pitching in the best conference in college baseball, apparently.

The Red Sox started their class with Oklahoma Sooners star righty Kyson Witherspoon. Then, they also grabbed Marcus Phillips out of Tennessee in round one. They concluded an SEC trio in the first three rounds with LSU Tigers talent Anthony Eyanson.

Eyanson's value really stands out here. He was often mocked in the late first or early second round entering Sunday's madness. Instead, he continued to slide all the way into round three. With one of the best sliders in college baseball, this could be a massive hit for Boston's farm system.

Phillips was projected to go in a similar round and has some intriguing stuff alongside a large frame. He came into the Volunteers' system as a multi-sport athlete, but his future seems to be on the diamond. A lot of upside here with a big arm.

As for Witherspoon, his small slide in round one stopped with Boston. The Sooners righty was often placed in the top ten selections in mock drafts, but he made it to the fifteenth overall selection. He's got ace potential and had a ton of fans in the scouting community entering day one of the draft. His brother was also selected on day one by the Detroit Tigers

All in all, the path to success for the draft for the Sox this season was through the SEC. There is no doubt that they garnered some big-time potential with the start of this draft class on the mound.
