The Boston Red Sox wrap up their three-game series against the New York Yankees tonight. The Boston Red Sox scored only one run while giving up eight in the first two games. Boston today is calling up left-handed pitcher Payton Tolle from Triple-A Worcester. Tolle will start against the Yankees tonight. He is the Red Sox top prospect in their system and the 15th-ranked prospect in all of baseball. The team has yet to name a corresponding move, though Eduardo Rivera remains a possibility. After pitching last night, Rivera will likely go to Triple-A Worcester instead of returning to Double-A Portland
The move will replace Sonny Gray in the rotation while he’s out. It also shifts the rotation, as Brayan Bello and Garrett Crochet will be pushed back a day and pitch the first two games against the Baltimore Orioles this weekend. Tolle has made three starts at Worcester, going 2-0. He had a 3.00 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, and 19 strikeouts in 15 innings.
