The Boston Red Sox will start a three-game series tonight against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park in Detroit, MI. The Red Sox are coming off a series loss over the weekend to the Houston Astros. They sit ten games back of the Yankees for first place in the American League East, but are currently three games back of the final Wild Card in the American League. Ahead of tonight’s game, the Red Sox placed left-handed pitcher Danny Coulombe on the 15-day injured list retroactive to May 2nd with cervical spasms. They selected left-handed pitcher Alec Gamboa from Triple-A Worcester. He will wear number 68. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Red Sox transferred left-handed pitcher Patrick Sandoval to the 60-day injured list.

Danny Coulombe

Coulombe has made 12 appearances this season, with a 0-1 record, a 5.63 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP, and five strikeouts in eight innings. He’s made 355 career big league appearances with six different organizations. He’s 17-11 with a 3.41 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and 317 strikeouts in 324.2 innings. Coulombe is in his 12th big league season.

Alec Gamboa

Gamboa this season in three starts at Worcester is 1-1. He’s posting a 6.23 ERA, a 1.69 WHIP, and 15 strikeouts in 13 innings. He’s made 134 minor league appearances, going 29-23 with a 4.30 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP, and 330 strikeouts in 372.2 innings.
