The Boston Red Sox dropped their series opener to the Tampa Bay Rays last night, 8-4. The Red Sox went down 3-0 in the second but tied the game in the bottom half before Tampa Bay regained the lead in the sixth. Tonight, they’ll look to get back in the win column as Connelly Early gets the ball, and he faces off against Jesse Scholtens for the Rays. Following last night’s game, it was reported that left-handed pitcher Jake Bennett, who got the start last night, was optioned back to Triple-A Worcester. The Red Sox are also reportedly recalling right-handed pitcher Jack Anderson from Triple-A Worcester.

Bennett last night, in his second big league start, went 5.1 innings. He allowed four runs on six hits; he walked two and struck out one. He’s 1-1 with a 4.35 ERA, a 1.45 WHIP, and four strikeouts in 10.1 innings with the Red Sox. In five starts at Triple-A Worcester, he’s 2-1. Bennett has a 0.86 ERA, a 0.71 WHIP, and 16 strikeouts in 21 innings.
Anderson made three appearances in his first call-up with the Red Sox, posting a 3.38 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, and six strikeouts in eight innings. In five games at Worcester this season, with three of those coming as starts he’s 1-1. He has a 4.50 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, and 17 strikeouts in 18 innings.
