The Boston Red Sox are taking on the Minnesota Twins today in Grapefruit League action and they are sending Cooper Criswell to the mound to make his third appearance, but it will be his first start of the spring. To this point, he has pitched four innings and has a 2.25 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP, and four strikeouts. The Red Sox spring roster has been cut down today as they made the following moves ahead of the game against the Twins.
Walter this spring has made two appearances going 4.2 innings and he posted a 1.93 ERA with a 0.86 WHIP and four strikeouts. Last season Walter appeared in nine games for the Red Sox going 0-0 with a 6.26 ERA, a 1.70 WHIP, and 16 strikeouts in 23 innings.
Adon signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox on January 24th. Last season he pitched with the Giants appearing in six games and posting a 2.70 ERA, a 0.90 WHIP, and nine strikeouts in 6.2 innings.
German last season pitched for five minor league teams between the Cincinnati Reds and Red Sox organization. He appeared in 25 games going 1-0 with a 7.18 ERA, a 2.16 WHIP, and 41 strikeouts in 26.1 innings.
Hoppe last season pitched for High-A Greenville and Double-A Portland appearing in 43 games going 2-5 with a 4.10 ERA, a 1.43 WHIP, and 64 strikeouts in 48.1 innings
Olivarez this spring has appeared in two games going 1.2 innings posting a 10.80 ERA, a 3.00 WHIP, and two strikeouts. He missed last season due to surgery on his shoulder capsule.
Hickey this spring appeared in three games and hit .500 with a 1.000 OPS; he had one RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Last season he played at High-A Greenville and Double-A Portland appearing in 98 games and he hit .265 with a .858 OPS; he had 24 doubles, one triple, 19 home runs, 65 RBI, 62 runs scored, three stolen bases, and 52 walks.
Scott this spring has played in four games, and he failed to record a hit going 0-6. Last season with Double-A Portland Triple-A Worcester he played in 100 games and hit .235 with a .812 OPS; he had 16 doubles, two triples, 19 home runs, 66 RBI, 59 runs scored, six stolen bases, and 59 walks.
