Boston Red Sox Starting Pitcher Garrett Crochet was at the top of his game today at home against the Tampa Bay Rays. He surrendered three hits and punched out nine in a complete game shutout. It was the first complete game of Crochet’s career. He tossed a shutout in the process. He had a humorous response after he recorded the final out. “I didn’t even know what to do when the third out was recorded, I was like ‘where do I stand?'”
Crochet has been great this season. He is second in the league in wins, third in ERA, leading the league in strikeouts, and 12th in opposing batting average. A great first half of the regular season led to the ace being named an American League All-Star. He will not be taking the mound next week in Atlanta. He was replaced on the active roster by Detroit Tigers Starting Pitcher Casey Mize on the active roster. Will Crochet be just as successful on the mound in the second half of the regular season?
Crochet has surpassed expectations in his first season with the Boston Red Sox. He signed a six-year $170 million contract with the squad in April 2025. He debuted with the Chicago White Sox in 2020. He became a full-time starter with the team in 2021. The best season of his career came in 2024 when he made his first All-Star appearance. He has been even better during the first half of 2025.
With Crochet declining to participate in the 2025 MLB All-Star Game, his first start post-All-Star break should come against the Chicago Cubs. That will be a stiff test for him. Chicago features one of the league’s most potent offenses.
