Brandon Pfaadt out duels Yamamoto in D-Backs dismantling of Dodgers on Thursday

It was a slow start for both teams offensively on Thursday night, as Brandon Pfaadt and Yoshinobu Yamamoto were dealing early on. The Dodgers had some loud outs in the first four innings of the game, as they hit multiple fly-outs that were just a couple of feet away from being home runs.

Getting the bats going:

The D-Backs had some chances early on in the game. In the bottom of the second inning, Gabriel Moreno and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. both were able to get two-out singles, before Alek Thomas struck out to end the inning. Geraldo Perdomo had a lead-off single in the bottom of the third, but after a Corbin Carroll ground out and a Ketel Marte double play, Arizona left another runner on base.

Something had to give for this D-Backs team, and it did so in the bottom of the fourth inning. After a Pavin Smith walk, Josh Naylor singled, and Eugenio Suárez was hit by a pitch shortly after that loaded the bases up with no outs for Gabriel Moreno, who took matters into his own hands.

A grand moment:

Gabriel Moreno blasted a grand slam for his first home run of the season, and the second grand slam of his career. Yamamoto’s command started to finally look shaky as those four runs were his first allowed earned runs after the third inning of the season.

Another great sight to see for the Diamondbacks came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Ketel Marte hit a solo home run to give Arizona a five-run lead. Marte, who has struggled since coming back, looked relieved.

Yamamoto left the game after giving up five earned runs on six hits in five innings, while Pfaadt pitched 6.1 innings while gave up four hits but didn’t allow a run.

The Dodgers had a little run in the 8th and 9th inning highlighted by a Shohei Ohtani solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, but the D-Backs were able to hold them off and win by a score of 5-3 on Thursday night.
