According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s Chad Bishop, the Braves have added veteran infielder Dominic Smith to their Spring Training roster.
The Braves have added veteran infielder Dominic Smith as a non-roster invite to spring training.

Smith has played in the majors in every season since 2017, with most of that time coming with the New York Mets. His best season actually came during the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign, when he was a legitimate MVP candidate, hitting .316 with a .993 OPS over 50 games.
While Smith has never posted anywhere close to those numbers over a full season, he’s proven to be a legitimate major-league bat over his career, hitting .250 with a .720 OPS.
We’ll see how he fits into the Braves’ plans, as there is no obvious spot for him at first base with Matt Olson in the fold or in the outfield. The designated hitter position is also filled, but Smith could potentially be viewed as a better offensive option off the bench than what the Braves currently have. He could also serve as quality organizational depth in case injuries arise, which has been the story in Atlanta dating back to 2024.
