The Braves getting Raisel Iglesias back on a one-year deal should only be viewed as a bargain. He’s been fantastic over four seasons in Atlanta, posting a 2.35 ERA across 222 appearances with 97 saves. And even though he began this year about as miserably as he ever has, he finished strong, delivering a 1.25 ERA over his final 45 outings.
According to MLB insider Francys Romero, Iglesias also drew interest from the Dodgers, Blue Jays, Mets, and Orioles, but he ultimately chose to stay with the Braves — the same organization that, quite controversially at the time, declined to move him at the trade deadline despite being well out of contention.
A $16 million price tag certainly suggests Atlanta plans to continue using Iglesias as their closer, but there’s still a ton of work to do when it comes to rebuilding the bullpen. Nobody should be surprised if the Braves add another marquee arm to the mix this offseason.
