Michael Harris is starting to heat up for the Atlanta Braves, and if he continues to perform at this level, Atlanta could very well be the team to beat in MLB.

Entering Thursday’s game against the Washington Nationals, Harris and the Braves were looking to complete the sweep and improve their 17-8 record, the best mark in the league.

Harris did everything he could to make that happen. He collected three hits in four plate appearances, driving in two runs and helping Atlanta build a 6-2 lead entering the bottom of the seventh inning. But when the Braves took the field, Harris was unexpectedly absent.

There was no clear indication of an injury, and he showed no discomfort while running the bases earlier in the seventh. Moments later, the Braves announced an update on his status. “OF Michael Harris II was removed as a precaution from today’s game with left quad tightness,” the team wrote on X.

Atlanta labeling the move precautionary is at least an encouraging sign. Jorge Mateo entered the game, shifting to shortstop, with Mauricio Dubon moving to left field and Eli White taking over the vacated spot in center.

It remains unclear whether Harris will undergo further evaluation. His next chance to return to the lineup comes Friday when the Braves open a weekend series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Braves cannot afford to lose Harris for any meaningful stretch. Since returning from the paternity list in early April, he has been one of the team’s best players.

Across his first 23 games this year, the 25-year-old center fielder has posted a .296 batting average, .337 on-base percentage, .880 OPS, six home runs and 14 RBIs.

This season is an important one for Harris, who struggled in 2025 and had not replicated his Rookie of the Year production since 2022. In 2026, he has finally looked like that player again.

The hope now is that his left quad tightness remains minor, because the Braves ceiling looks very different if Harris is not in the middle of it.
