Ahead of the final series of the first half, the Braves announced they have claimed old friend Joey Wentz off waivers. In a corresponding move, they have designated Kevin Herget for assignment.
The #Braves today claimed LHP Joey Wentz off waivers from the Minnesota Twins and designated RHP Kevin Herget for assignment.

Once a top 10 prospect for the Braves, Wentz was traded to the Tigers back in 2019 for Shane Greene. He went on to make his debut in 2022 but didn’t have much success, posting a 5.81 ERA over 70 appearances (26 starts) for Detroit.
So far in 2025, Wentz has pitched in a relief role for the Pirates and Twins, boasting an unsightly 6.88 ERA over 20 appearances. Maybe he makes an appearance for the Braves; maybe he doesn’t. But I can say for certain he is not the answer to Atlanta’s pitching woes.
