Braves call up intriguing relief option

In wake of the Braves decision to option Bryce Elder, the club brought up a familiar face in a corresponding move, recalling left-handed pitcher Dylan Dodd.

The last time Braves fans saw Dylan Dodd he was struggling as a starting pitcher. He’s spent a few different stints in Atlanta, owning a 2-2 record with a 7.68 ERA over 36.1 innings.

However, since then, Dodd has been moved to the bullpen full time, where he’s had a lot of success outside of his first outing, when he gave up five earned runs over 0.2 innings. He’s surrendered just five earned runs in 15 innings since, good for an even 3.00 ERA to go along with an eye-popping 12.1 K/9 and 31.3 K%.

Dodd will hang around the club, likely only appearing in very low-leverage situations, until Spencer Strider returns next week, but he is an arm worth monitoring this season. If he keeps getting guys out in Gwinnett, he could work his way onto the major-league roster permanently.
