Braves Facing Roster Decision Amid Andrew McCutchen Development

The timing could hardly be better for Atlanta. While the Braves remain atop the National League East with a 64-45 record, the lineup has lacked consistent production against left-handed pitching, making McCutchen an intriguing internal option rather than forcing the front office to acquire another veteran bat before Monday's deadline.

Calling him up, however, won't be simple. The Braves would need to clear both a 26-man roster spot and a place on the 40-man roster, likely requiring another transaction or exposing a younger player to waivers. Ramón Laureano, who has struggled through a .192 stretch over his last 15 games, is among the players whose roster spot could come under increased scrutiny.

McCutchen also brings something Atlanta cannot acquire easily at the deadline: nearly two decades of major league experience and postseason leadership. A former National League MVP, he has embraced the challenge of working his way back after his knee injury threatened to derail his 2026 season.
