Braves Fans Get Another Disappointing Update After Trade Deadline

The Atlanta Braves explored a blockbuster move for San Francisco Giants ace Logan Webb before the 2026 MLB trade deadline, but their pursuit never gained traction.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported that the Braves were among the clubs that aggressively pursued Webb before Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey made it clear the right-hander was off limits. The report was shared by the Baseball Is Dead podcast on X.

Atlanta instead acquired veteran right-hander Tyler Mahle from the Giants before the deadline, but Nightengale's report revealed the club initially aimed much higher in its search for another frontline starter.

According to Nightengale, San Francisco had no interest in moving Webb despite dealing several veterans before the deadline. Posey said the organization views Webb as a foundational player who can help lead the next generation of Giants pitchers.

Webb remains signed through the 2028 season on a team-friendly contract, making him one of the franchise's most valuable long-term assets. While Atlanta's interest was significant, the Giants never seriously entertained offers for their ace.

The Braves entered Sunday at 70-47, leading the National League East by 8.5 games over the Philadelphia Phillies. Adding Webb would have given Atlanta one of baseball's strongest postseason rotations, but the club ultimately pivoted to Mahle after San Francisco refused to negotiate.

For the Giants, the decision underscored that even amid a deadline selloff, Webb remains untouchable. His value extends beyond his performance on the mound as the organization views him as a leader for its next competitive core.
