On Tuesday, the Braves finalized their 10 member coaching staff to surround new manager Walt Weiss, featuring eight new faces and two coaches returning — hitting coach Tim Hyers and major league coach Eddie Perez.

Braves New Coaching Staff

It’s now been confirmed that Tim Hyers will return as the Braves’ hitting coach following a season in which Atlanta’s offense was a major disappointment — Hyers’ first year with the club. His performance will be under a microscope next season, but he’ll have some help with the addition of Darnell Coles as assistant hitting coach, who brings 12 years of experience as a major-league hitting coach.

Other newly announced hires include Dustin Garneau, Tommy Watkins, and Tony Diaz. Garneau will serve as the Braves’ catching coach, a role that went unfilled last season after the departure of Sal Fasano. Watkins joins as the team’s third base coach — a position originally given to Tony Mansolino, who will instead move into the bench coach role. Watkins had been with the Twins organization since 2019, serving as both a first and third base coach. Diaz comes aboard as a major-league coach after spending 2017 through 2024 with the Rockies and Twins as a third base coach and assistant bench coach.

It’s an impressive staff for Walt Weiss, one that should temporarily ease concerns among fans who were initially skeptical of the Braves going the internal route again. The group features a nice blend of old-school and modern baseball minds, with each coach being well regarded across the league.
