Braves Make Rare MLB History After Surviving Four-Home Run Game

The Atlanta Braves kept their momentum rolling Saturday night, notching their third straight victory — but it didn’t come easy. Arizona’s Eugenio Suárez made history with a jaw-dropping four-home-run performance, yet it still wasn’t enough to derail Atlanta, who pulled out a dramatic win.

Suárez became just the 19th player in Major League Baseball history to hit four home runs in a single game, launching solo shots in four separate trips to the plate. His historic night electrified Chase Field and etched his name into the record books. But while his personal milestone was one for the ages, it ultimately came in a losing effort.

By surviving Suárez’s barrage, the Braves joined an exclusive and fascinating club. Only two teams before Atlanta have ever surrendered four home runs to one player and still managed to win: the Montreal Expos on July 6, 1986, when Atlanta’s Bob Horner hit four bombs, and the Chicago Colts way back on July 13, 1896, when Ed Delahanty did the damage for Philadelphia.

The Braves’ offense did just enough to counter Suárez’s solo fireworks, capitalizing on timely hitting and clutch performances from the middle of the lineup. Their bullpen also steadied itself after each Suárez homer, preventing the rest of Arizona’s offense from following his lead.

It was a game that will be remembered for Suárez’s individual brilliance, but for Atlanta, it was another gritty win in a season where they continue to show they can weather just about anything at this point— even history being made against them.
