Braves Make Roster Move Before Phillies Series

The Atlanta Braves made a roster move before their important series against the Philadelphia Phillies, placing outfielder Lane Thomas on the 10-day injured list with a strained left intercostal muscle.

The Braves backdated the move to September 8, when Thomas was scratched shortly before their game against the Tampa Bay Rays after feeling discomfort in his side during batting practice. Atlanta went on to win the game 3-1.

With Thomas moving to the injured list, the Braves recalled outfielder DaShawn Keirsey Jr. from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Thomas joined Atlanta at the trade deadline after spending the first part of the season with the Kansas City Royals. He has struggled since the move, hitting .171 with one home run and three RBIs in 21 games with the Braves.

His numbers were considerably better with Kansas City, where he hit .232 with 10 home runs, 37 RBIs and seven stolen bases in 97 games. Atlanta had acquired him to provide another option in the outfield, particularly against left-handed pitching.

Keirsey now gives the Braves another outfield option as they prepare for a key matchup with Philadelphia. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter spent the season in Triple-A and can provide Atlanta with additional speed and defensive flexibility.
