The Braves offseason really kicked off late Wednesday night. It began by re-signing Raisel Iglesias to a one-year deal, and now they’ve made a trade with the Astros for Mauricio Dubón, sending Nick Allen to Houston in the deal.

This is a swap of light-hitting infielders with elite gloves. Mauricio Dubón is a two-time Gold Glove winner and brings a little more with the bat than Allen, hitting .241 with seven homers and a .644 OPS over 133 games for the Astros.
Another thing to like about Dubón is his versatility. He can quite literally play all over the diamond, logging time at first base, second base, shortstop, third base, right field, center field, and left field this past season. That kind of flexibility is extremely valuable, especially for a Braves team that has dealt with so many injuries over the last two years.
The big question now is how the Braves view Dubón. Will he be a super-utility piece capable of filling in at multiple positions? Or is he their answer at shortstop for 2026?
If it’s the former, this is a desperately needed addition. But if it’s the latter, the Braves must make finding another middle-of-the-order bat a priority.
