Despite having a rocky campaign up to this point, the Atlanta Braves have turned it around and are riding a lot of momentum heading into the final week of the regular season.
Atlanta is currently 73-83 and has officially been eliminated from playoff contention for the first time since 2017. However, though they will miss the postseason, they are still aiming to end the season on a high note.
Heading into Monday's game against the Washington Nationals, the Braves had won each of their last eight games and are 11-8 in September, according to StatMuse. Although it will not make a difference regarding their standing in the NL, ending the season hot could give them some optimism for next season.
The Braves are looking to win their ninth game in a row on Monday, but they now have a new obstacle to overcome as second baseman Ozzie Albies left the game in the third inning due to a hand injury suffered during an at-bat. Following his departure, Atlanta made an injury announcement and provided an update on the 28-year-old.
Ozzie Albies has left tonight's game with what appears to be a left hand or wrist injury, suffered on this swing. That's the same wrist that he broke last year.

Before suffering his injury, Albies was 1-for-2 and recorded a run. He is a big part of Atlanta's team, and even if they do not have much to play for at this point in the season, this is still upsetting, especially considering that Albies had played every game this year up to this point.
After the game, the Braves officially provided an injury update on their three-time All-Star.
"2B Ozzie Albies was removed from tonight’s game due to a fractured hamate bone in his left hand," the Braves wrote on X.

Albies previously suffered a left wrist fracture last July and missed roughly two months because of it. Given that the Braves are completely out of playoff contention, it would make sense for the team to play this as safely as possible, given his history.
In his ninth MLB season, Albies is batting .240 and has recorded 16 home runs, 74 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases. He has spent his entire major league career in Atlanta up to this point, but his future with the team remains up in the air.
The Curacao native signed a seven-year, $35 million extension with the Braves in 2019. However, that contract includes a $7 million team option for 2026 and 2027.
In August, Albies made it clear that he wanted to stay with the Braves past this season, but ultimately, it is up to the team to make that decision this upcoming offseason (h/t Gabriel Burns of AJC).
“Oh, 100% (I hope to stay moving forward),” Albies said. “That’s definitely the dream.”
Once Atlanta's season officially comes to an end, they will have a big decision to make regarding their second baseman. Unfortunately for him, depending on how the Braves choose to play his injury, there is a chance that Albies has already played his final game for the team after nine seasons.
