Atlanta Braves slugger Marcell Ozuna suffered a nasty-looking hand injury that included his left ring finger bending awkwardly when he slid into third base in the third inning of Tuesday's win over the Boston Red Sox.
According to Tim Tucker of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Braves manager Brian Snitker told reporters Wednesday that Ozuna is expected to miss at least six weeks of action with fractures in his left ring and middle fingers. Ozuna confirmed the timeline via a post he shared on his Instagram Story.
"Thanks to everyone who took a minute of their time to worry about me," he wrote in Spanish. "I’m fine because God wanted it that way, thank God nothing more serious happened, now wait 6 weeks to recover. Thank you all."
Snitker added: "Obviously, they found the fractures. ... If there’s a good thing, it’s that it’s not a surgical process. They just cast him up, and it’s going to take time." Surgery likely would've sidelined the 30-year-old longer.
Ozuna was batting .213 with seven home runs and 26 RBI across 48 games this season at the time he suffered the injuries. The Braves haven't yet determined who will replace Ozuna on a full-time basis.
