Braves' Ozzie Albies suffers fractured left foot against Nationals

Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies suffered a fractured left foot Monday night in a game against the Washington Nationals.

Albies left the game in the fifth inning and did not return. Facing Washington's Steve Cishek, Albies made contact with a 3-2 pitch and immediately fell to the ground just outside the batter's box, holding his left foot in the air.

After putting together an All-Star season in 2021, Albies has struggled this season. In 61 games, Albies is batting .246/.288/.408 with eight home runs and 33 RBIs. He's also been sluggish on the base paths, going 3-for-8 on steal attempts this season. In 2021, Albies stole 20 bases and was caught just four times.

The injury to Albies is a big blow to the Braves, who already have several injured players who may be out of action for the foreseeable future.

Outfielder Eddie Rosario is on the 60-day IL after undergoing an eye procedure in March. Starting pitcher Mike Soroka has been out since last June after re-tearing his Achilles. Meanwhile, relief pitcher Kirby Yates is recovering from Tommy John surgery last March.
