Braves place All-Star 2B Ozzie Albies on 60-day IL with fractured left foot

The defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves are riding high, currently red-hot and on a league-best 12-game winning streak. They've trimmed the New York Mets' lead atop the NL East to five games and they're showing no signs of slowing down.

Superstar Ronald Acuna Jr. and company will have to try to maintain their winning ways without a key member of their lineup for much of the remainder of the regular season though.

Albies suffered his injury during the team's victory against the Washington Nationals on Monday night after making contact with a 3-2 pitch and immediately falling to the ground just outside the batter's box. Albies joins 2021 NLCS MVP Eddie Rosario -- an outfielder -- and 2019 All-Star starting pitcher Mike Soroka as some notable names on the Braves' 60-day IL.

Rosario underwent an eye procedure in March, while Soroka has been out since last June after re-tearing his Achilles.

The injured second baseman is off to a slow start in 2022, slashing just .244/.289/.405, but his resumé speaks for itself. Still just 25 years old, Albies has already racked up two Silver Slugger Awards and a pair of All-Star honors as well.
