The Atlanta Braves have established themselves as a legitimate contender during the 2026 MLB season. Despite dealing with significant injury issues throughout the year, the Braves enter Thursday’s series finale against the San Francisco Giants with a 46-27 record. Atlanta leads the National League East, with a 6.5-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies.
As the injuries continue piling up for Atlanta, the Braves are now looking to avoid a sweep at the hands of a Giants team that is second-to-last in the National League. Despite the injuries, the Braves still boast one of baseball’s best rosters, filled with star power and high-level contributors.
One of the Braves' most important contributors this season has been center fielder Michael Harris II, who is putting together the best offensive campaign of his career and has emerged as a potential All-Star candidate.
However, Harris was removed from Tuesday’s game with lower back tightness. The team exercised caution and held him out of Wednesday’s game, and the former NL Rookie of the Year could get another day of rest if Thursday’s game is rained out.
On Thursday, MLB.com reporter Mark Bowman shared that Harris felt better than expected on Wednesday, and Bowman also noted that Harris recovered quickly from a similar issue earlier this month.
“Michael Harris II felt better than expected yesterday. With the strong possibility today’s game is rained out, this could be another day of rest. When his back tightened on June 5, he pinch hit on June 7 and was back in the lineup on June 9. We’ll see if this latest back ailment calls for a similar timetable,” Bowman posted on X.

Before the latest bout of back tightness, the 25-year-old had provided value on both sides of the ball as he continues to play elite defense in center field. Through 68 games this season, Harris is slashing .306/.340/.514 with 14 home runs and 41 RBIs.
With the Braves hoping to extend their division lead over the Phillies, the organization will hope Harris can return to the lineup quickly and avoid a prolonged absence.
