Braves' Sean Kazmar Jr. could play in first MLB game since 2008

The Atlanta Braves placed Sean Kazmar Jr. on the active roster Saturday and manager Brian Snitker couldn't help but share his excitement. 

Kazmar has not played in the major leagues since 2008, but he could play this weekend, according to ESPN.

"That was probably one of the greatest moments I've had as a manager at all the levels, quite honestly," Snitker said of informing Kazmar of his return. "It's amazing. You go from '08 to 2021, in between, you've got to be kidding me, to have the perseverance and the dedication and the drive."

Kazmar's last game in the majors came on Sept. 23, 2008 against the San Diego Padres. He appeared in 19 games that season and has since played in Triple-A for the Padres, Seattle Mariners, New York Mets and Braves organizations.

If he plays, Kazmar's gap between appearances would be the longest since 1950, passing Minnie Minoso and Satchel Paige. 

During spring training with the Braves, Kazmar slashed .409/.552/.864 with three home runs and nine RBI on nine hits.
