Braves sign a few more ahead of spring training

With pitchers and catchers reporting tomorrow, Braves baseball is almost back, but Alex Anthopoulos isn’t done tweaking the roster.

I expect Atlanta’s GM to add at least one more notable arm to the pitching staff, with the bullpen being more in need of an addition, but there were a few smaller moves made today.

According to Justin Toscano of the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, the Braves have brought in Chad Khul, Jake Diekman, and Dylan Covey.

Once upon a time, Kuhl was a back-of-the-rotation arm but has moved into a long-relief role more recently, spending the 2024 campaign with the White Sox, where he appeared across 53.1 innings. He posted a 5.06 ERA, while striking out 22.5% of batters and walking 10.4% of them.

Covey was DFA’d by the Mets and rather than stay with the organization, he elected free agency not too long ago, which is admirable for a 33-year-old betting on himself, but he has a lifetime 6.18 ERA in 307.1 innings of work.

Diekman posted an unsightly 5.63 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 40:24 K:BB over 43 regular-season appearances with the Mets last season before being released. He did, however, post a 3.67 ERA across the previous three seasons.
