Braves skipper Brian Snitker among MLB managers whose job status could be in question

The Braves are off to about as poor a start as anyone could’ve imagined, and a lot of fans place some of the blame on Atlanta’s skipper, Brian Snitker.

Being a major-league manager is a thankless job. Even though the lineup can’t hit with runners in scoring position, the bullpen is in horrid shape, and the rotation hasn’t been much better, many people still believe Brian Snitker is the problem.

The entire club is at fault, and maybe some fans have an argument that Snit’s laid-back style of managing has led to too much comfortability, but there are far worse managers in baseball. Generally speaking, the grass isn’t greener in these sorts of situations.

However, the facet of Braves fans who dream of a life without Brian Snitker may get their wish following the 2025 campaign, as Ken Rosenthal included Snit in his piece on MLB managers whose job status could be in question.

“He’s not getting fired, no matter how badly the Braves continue to stumble. This is Snitker’s 49th year in the organization. He led the team to six straight division crowns between 2018 and ‘23. And when that streak ended last season, the Braves still made the playoffs, winning more games than they did in 2021, the year they became World Series champions.

The Braves will allow Snitker to determine his own fate. The question is how long he wants to continue. Like Bochy, he will celebrate his 70th birthday this year. He has said he will consider retirement at the end of the season, but has been noncommittal about the possibility.”

I’m sure 2024 wasn’t as easy as the seasons prior on Snitker, and this year hasn’t been a cakewalk so far, but I would imagine getting to that 50th year with the Braves organization is a pretty important accomplishment to Snit.

Rosenthal did bring up that Snitker could step down as the manager, and the club could name him a special assistant. That way, he can spend more time with his family and still notch that 50th year. Either way, Snitker has been one of the best in the business, and fans who want him gone should be careful what they wish for.
