If you thought the Atlanta Braves might catch a break from the injury bug during the offseason, think again. The club announced on Sunday that Ha-Seong Kim tore a tendon in his right middle finger while in Korea. He underwent surgery and is expected to miss 4-5 months.

This is just a horrendous break for the Braves, who have easily had the worst injury luck of any team over the last two seasons. Atlanta just handed Ha-Seong Kim a $20 million contract for 2026, and now he’s likely to miss roughly half the season.
The good news? The Braves also acquired Mauricio Dubón in a trade with the Astros to kick off the offseason. He’s a Gold Glove-caliber defender who can handle shortstop while Kim is sidelined, but at this point, it almost feels laughable. Whoever is sticking pins in the Braves voodoo doll — please stop. Over the last two years, damn near every single player on this roster has suffered a significant injury.
Shortstop has been a black hole in Atlanta ever since Dansby Swanson left for the Cubs in free agency. With their investment in Kim, the expectation was that problem had finally been solved. Instead, the Braves find themselves right back at square one, with no real alternative but to hope Dubón can hold down the fort until Kim is able to return.
