Braves top Mets in extras as Jurickson Profar impresses on the farm

Yesterday was a good day for Braves Country, and we have to acknowledge it because we don’t get many of those. Not only did the club knock off the Mets in walk-off fashion in the 10th inning, but Jurickson Profar also impressed on the farm.

The good guys trailed 4-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth, and it looked like the same old Atlanta Braves. The bats were quiet after Matt Olson‘s early-game RBI, and Spencer Schwellenbach had given up a first-inning solo home run to Juan Soto and then two more runs in the second inning after a bloop double.

Then, in the bottom of the eighth, the Braves loaded the bases with nobody out for the heart of the order. It was a position they have found themselves in often this year, and more times than not, they failed to deliver, which is the way things were trending. Matt Olson struck out on a questionable called strike three that was a few inches outside the zone, and Austin Riley followed it up with a fly out to right field that wasn’t even deep enough to get the runner in from third.

It was all up to Marcell Ozuna, who delivered with a game-tying double down the left field line into the corner.

However, the job was not finished. Dylan Lee entered the game for the Braves in the ninth inning, and things looked grim again.

Juan Soto led off with a single to right field, and Pete Alonso launched another pitch that would’ve put the Mets in prime position to take the lead, but Ronald Acuna Jr. leaped into the right field wall to make an improbable catch, doubling up Soto in the process, who thought there was no chance Acuna was going to catch the ball.

The Braves couldn’t score in the ninth either, sending the game to extras. It gave Raisel Iglesias a chance to really come through for the club, and he delivered. In his most critical outing of the season, he set down the Mets in order and did not allow the ghost runner in from second base, setting the stage for a Braves walk-off in the bottom half of the inning.

It’s only one game, but if there were ever a game that could turn a season around, this was it, and it wasn’t the only positive development for the Braves.

Jurickson Profar returned to play and is less than two weeks away from returning to Atlanta. With the Gwinnett Stripers last night, Profar went to the plate five times and notched two hits, one walk, and a sac-fly RBI.

The Braves left field position has been a black hole for the entire season, and Profar’s ability to get on base will provide some much-needed length to a struggling lineup. If there are no rainouts, the Braves will likely have Jurickson Profar back in the lineup on July 2.
