Braves top prospect Tate Southisene hits the IL

A year after being drafted, Tate Southisene is already being labeled by many as the top prospect in the organization, and the Braves’ decision to promote him to Double-A at just 19 years old suggested they might agree.

Unfortunately, in his first game with the Columbus Clingstones, he was struck on the hand by a pitch.

Southisene was removed from the game soon after and has now been placed on the 7-day IL.

There’s yet to be an official report on the severity of the injury, but anytime you’re hit on the hand/wrist area while holding onto the bat, it typically requires some significant time off. Hopefully, that’s not the case with Southisene, but even if he were to miss the final couple months of the season, his first full professional campaign would go down as a resounding success.

Southisene has played in 89 games this year between Low-A Augusta and High-A Rome, hitting a combined .278 with 12 home runs and 45 stolen bases.
