Last summer the Milwaukee Brewers selected left-handed pitcher Frank Cairone 68th overall, a compensatory selection for unsigned 2024 Draft pick Chris Levonas. At the time he was just 17 years old, making him one of the youngest players in the draft. He turned 18 in September, spent some time at the Brewers Arizona Complex, and was on track to make his professional debut in 2026.
Now the New Jersey baseball product is battling something entirely different as he was involved in a car accident on Friday, January 2, resulting in him being hospitalized as a result.
Following Cairone’s accident, the Brewers released the following statement
“Frank is currently being cared for at a hospital in New Jersey with the support of his family. The Brewers’ thoughts and prayers are with Frank and his family during his difficult time.”
At this time, no more details as to Cairone’s health has been released. However, one local New Jersey news outlet did publish that “A source close to the Cairone family, who asked not to be identified because he wasn’t authorized to speak publicly, told NJ Advance Media that the 18-year-old was flown to Atlantic City Medical Center on Friday.
Time will tell what the implications are on Cairone’s professional baseball career. He received a $1,097,500 signing bonus from the club, giving him a strong financial start, but his current health is currently the top priority.
