As one of the most talented free agents in the market, it's a bit of a surprise to see that Bo Bichette remains unsigned.
However, that's not due to a lack of interest. If anything, it might be the opposite.
The Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs all want to lure him away from Canada, with the Toronto Blue Jays also looking to keep him up north.
If that wasn't enough, MLB insider Jon Heyman now reports that the Philadelphia Phillies have also joined the race to get the talented middle infielder.
"The Phillies are among a number of big-market teams to have interest in Bo Bichette, an ultra young (27) free agent. Yanks, Cubs, Dodgers, Red Sox and incumbent Jays, too. Bichette is the only player to hit .300 vs. fastballs, breaking balls and also changeups/splits," Heyman wrote on X.
The Phillies are more than set at shortstop with Trea Turner there, but that shouldn't stop them from pursuing the Blue Jays star.
Bichette has reportedly shown a willingness to move to second base after excelling there during the World Series. The sample size was limited, but he looked much better defensively there.
He also bounced back from a somewhat disappointing campaign in 2024, finishing the season with a .311/.357/.483 slash line, 94 RBI, 18 home runs and a 134 wRC+.
Should he sign with the Phillies, Bryson Stott would probably move to third base, pushing Alec Bohm as the potential odd man out.
Bichette is reportedly set to make around $200 million in his new contract, and the Phillies' payroll is quite steep as it is right now. Even so, as one of the top players up for grabs and his prime years still ahead of him, he'd certainly be worth the investment.
