The Milwaukee Brewers exhausted the pitching staff in the divisional round against the Chicago Cubs, but it worked as the Brewers have advanced to the NLCS to face off against the Los Angeles Dodgers. After dropping two straight at Wrigley Field, the Brewers took Game 5 by a final score of 3–1, shutting down Chicago’s offense.
Rookie sensation Jacob Misiorowski had an incredible series operating out of the bullpen for Milwaukee. The 23-year-old right-handed flamethrower made two appearances for the Brewers and collected two wins while allowing just one run in seven innings of work along with seven strikeouts. Misiorowski struggled down the stretch, leading to Brewers manager Pat Murphy demoting him to the bullpen in the postseason.
As the Brewers prepare for Game 1 of the NLCS against Los Angeles on Monday, the club knows it will need more length from its starting rotation. Murphy will not be able to lean on favorable bullpen matchups like he did in the NLDS, but the best-of-seven format gives the Brewers a bit more room for error across the series.
One potential adjustment is moving Misiorowski back into a starting role. The rookie right-hander was electric out of the bullpen during the NLDS, and Murphy told reporters on Sunday that Misiorowski is a candidate to start against the Dodgers.
“Brewers rookie Jacob Misiorowski, who was sensational out of the bullpen during the NLDS, is a candidate to start against the Dodgers in the NLCS, Brewers manager Pat Murphy says,” wrote Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Misiorowski has had a rollercoaster first year in the MLB. He became the youngest player to ever become an All-Star, making the National League roster after just five total starts. Misiorowski struggled in the second half, experiencing some growing pains as a rookie, posting a 5.36 ERA in ten games to finish off the year after entering the All-Star Game with a 2.81 ERA.
However, the youngster has seemingly picked it up again in October, rising to the occasion. If he draws a start, he will look to help Milwaukee advance to the World Series for the first time since 1982.
